In 2001, our founder began working on an idea with her father: how could an elegantly buttoned shirt collar feel more comfortable?
At home, she created the first prototype using a four-hole button and a piece of elastic. That handmade prototype was never commercialized. Instead, it became the starting point for the development of the refined, patented COCHIC extender recognized today as the signature innovation of our brand.
Over the years, millions of patented COCHIC extenders have been sold or given away around the world, including nearly 1.5 million over the past five years.

Their materials, colours, sizes, and finishes vary according to availability, from Australian mother-of-pearl to recycled materials and other quality buttons.
This simple button-and-elastic model is not presented as a new invention. Anyone with a four-hole button and a piece of elastic can experiment with making one at home.
